Brief Overview of the Translation Process for a Standard Project
At the beginning of the translation process is content review. Your project manager (PM) will go over your source content and review it in its entirety. We will then provide a detailed quote for the translation language(s) required.
Following quote approval, we will ask you to review the translation preparation. This is to ensure your content is complete and accurate and useable for translation. The PM will work with you to build a list of terms specific to your content. This could be industry specific jargon, product and brand names, acronyms and abbreviations etc. and may come back to you for clarification if required. From this we build the Term Base (TB). The Term Base provides set explanations for specific jargon, how to handle things like brand/product names (translate, transliterate, leave in English) etc.
Next the content will be segmented. This means it will be cut up into discrete sections to enable the Translation Memory (TM) to be built as the translation ensues. The Lead Translator will go through and do a complete translation of the content. During this process further clarification may be required from the client if anything is unclear or requires further context.
After this comes editing. An editor will go through the entire project, comparing source and target text, confirming that TB instructions have been applied correctly, and applying any changes necessary. The editor is responsible for accuracy and fluency of the translation.
If no specific layup or formatting is required then a final proofread will be undertaken (checking for typos, spelling, grammatical correctness of the translation), before sending the completed project to the client. If DTP or other transformation of the translation is required, then this step is undertaken first prior to the final proofread.
On completion of delivery clients sometimes have a third party (e.g. their in-market distributor) review the translation. We are always happy to work with these reviews and adjust or edit translation as required.
